Just what everyone was waiting for, shoe photos and plastic reports from the year 2000, period 2 class.

 

A Quick Intro: Materials Science is an upperclassmen elective science course here at Blair. During this semester course, students study the topics of synthetic materials, toxic materials, and metallurgy. There are projects that go along with each unit as well. The project that goes with the synthetics unit is synthetic shoes. Each student made their own pair of use using at least four different synthetic materials. Then they used the shoes on a trek around the campus of Blair, which unlucky period 2 had to do in 8 inches of snow!. Some students chose to display their shoes to the world by wearing them all day. Each student also write an in depth report on a certain kind of synthetic, for example acrylics or PVC. During the toxic materials unit, students made chlidren's toy for the kids in Child Development to play with. The toys had to be made from completely non-toxic material, everything down to the adhesvies used. Finally, for the metallurgy unit, students polished different metals and viewed their crystal structure under a microscope. More infomration is on the pages below:
