An elective magnet level course that teaches the process of resume
and proposal writing and culminates in an on-campus or off-campus
research project.
Each student will seek a mentor to guide his or her research project
during the spring and summer of their junior/senior year. This mentorship
will be primarily in an area of math, science or computer technology.
Each
student will spend 400-600 hours of work on the project, and return
to school, as a senior, prepared to write and defend a scientific paper
embodying their research.
Upon completion of the research in the laboratory,
the student will write a scientific paper, prepare a presentation poster,
design an “artifact” sheet,
formulate an oral presentation to be used for the research convention.
The student will be encouraged to use the outcomes of this project
to enter one or more of the available competitions (such as the Intel
Science Talent Search).
