Modeling and Simulation, or ModSim for short, is a semester-long
course taught every other year by Ms. Dvorsky. To take this
course, Magnet Juniors and Seniors must have completed or concurrently
be taking Analysis of Algorithms. Other
Blair Juniors and Seniors may also take ModSim if they have completed
A.P. Computer Science.
ModSim helps students understand and utilize computer models in a
variety of disciplines. For example, students model a wildfire's spread,
hypothetical ecosystems, wait times at stores, and other situations.
Ultimately, students devise their own system to model. Choices in
the past have included topics as wide ranging as life on a duck pond
to traffic patterns in Blair's hallways. Some of the assignments use
the STELLA modeling environment, while others require MatLab, C++,
or other program languages.
