Taught by Mr. Rogers, this course can be considered an overview of
observational astronomy. Students use a variety of tools to investigate
topics such as cosmology, galaxies, star, the inner and outer planets,
and much more. Skills are developed that developed a student's awareness
of the many celestial wonders of the night sky. An emphasis is placed
on research.
Topics may vary from year to year, but generally include:
- Unaided eye observations
- Coordinate systems
- Telescopes
- The Earth as a planet
- The Moon
- The Sun
- The inner planets
- The outer planets
- Comets, asteroids, & meteors
- Stars
- Galaxies
- Cosmology
The course concludes with a scientific examination of a current work
of science fiction.
