Chemistry is the second of the required Magnet science courses,
taught second semester in the students first year at Blair. There
are two
teachers: Mr. Bunday and Mr. Pham. The class's objectives are:
- Introducing the students to the principles of chemistry.
- Developing the students' skills in observation, collecting data,
organizing data, generalizations, and formulations of laws or hypothesizes.
- Developing the students' laboratory skills through the use of
equipment and chemicals.
- The students' utilization of the concepts of chemistry and observation
to solve problems.
- Developing and refining the students' writing skills via research
and laboratory experiments.
Topics include:
- Atoms and Atomic Theory
- Chemical Compounds
- Chemical Reactions
- Gas Laws
- Periodic Table
- Chemical Bounding
- pH Acids and Bases
- Organic Chemistry
Students will also keep up with current chemical research, and present
a final project to the class at the end of the semester.
