Taught by Mr. Rogers, this Magnet elective offered second semester
both to any Magnet junior or senior, or to any Blair student who has
taken Honors Chemistry. The course is a perusal of plate tectonic theory
and its relation to physical and marine geology. Initial students will
develop a level of competency using image processing tools. Students
then use these skills to investigate several concepts of plate tectonic
theory (such as earthquakes and volcanism) and diastrophism. Several
activities involving the Internet will extent topics covered in the
text. Similarly, the second part of the course begins with a more in-depth
use of image processing techniques as it related to the investigation
of Earth's ocean environs. This portion of the courses concentrates
on current topics of physical oceanography and marine geology.
